Google Drive is an extremely useful tool for storing, sharing, and organizing many types of documents. This past year, as a first year teacher, I was trying to find the best way to organize documents that I created or downloaded. I used Google Drive as my "go to" method for creating and saving documents and could not be any happier with the decision.
I plan to continue to use Google Drive to collaborate and share documents with my colleagues. Sharing information using the cloud makes editing accessible to the entire team and gives our group a central location to save important documents. Also, sharing information using the cloud gives teachers the ability to view the document without having to sift through emails or be at our personal desktops.
Students can also use Google Drive to publish work, as well as share their work with their peers and myself. I love the ability to give feedback within a Google document. This will be very time efficient, and students and I can exchange ideas giving them instant feedback in a more conversational format. It is easy for kids to continue working on projects at home, as this application allows users to access work through the cloud using any device! I am excited to introduce Google Drive to students because it is a tool that can help them in my classroom, their future educational adventures, and maybe eventually in the workforce.
As you can see I am a huge Google Drive supporter. I can see the many benefits that it brings to the classroom. One negative aspect could possibly be teaching students how to use editing tools in a respectful manner. I can see some classroom expectations lessons being needed when students are allowed to make revisions to classroom documents or peer work. Teaching "etiquette" when using this application would be part of the introduction to having Google Docs in the classroom. (Luckily the program also has a history tab to help manage comments/revisions)
Below is a link to a math worksheet I created. It provides students with extra practice adding and subtracting negative numbers.
Adding & Subtracting Negative Numbers
I like your math worksheet. That's a great way to explain negative numbers. :) You have a lot of great ideas for how to use Google Drive with your colleagues and your students. Google Classroom makes it even easier to share and collect docs from your kids.
ReplyDeleteI love that math sheet! It was a great way to teach that skill. I thought of the same con to Drive as you. It will take a lot of time to teach students how to respectfully use the programs.
ReplyDeleteI've also loved getting to use Google Suite features more and more. Organization is so important with Google Drive--something that I need to be better about! I love how easy it is to access materials wherever you are.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great worksheet. Negative numbers is a tough concept and I think the visuals that you added are a great way for visual learners to understand the information. I hope to be able to use this in the future.
