Activity 3: Screencasting and MV Youtube

Screencasting can be a very valuable tool. It is a useful way to give directions, differentiate instruction, or teach using a "flipped classroom" approach. I chose to use Snagit as my recording device. This was a very simple and user friendly tool. I loved how my recording was automatically uploaded to my Google Drive. Also, in the past, I have recorded using the SMARTboard recording device, and it was very easy to create recorded lessons using preexisting SMARTboard presentations. I plan on using both of these screen-casting tools this year.

Below is a link to a video I created that teaches students how to access Google Drive and create a new Google Doc.

Having a personal YouTube channel will make it easier for me to organize videos that I may want to use in class. Also, I can have my students subscribe to my account and have access to school appropriate videos that relate to lessons.

In this video I am giving my reading students directions on how to save and share their friendly letters as they create their final draft in Google Docs.

  1. You are a natural at recording! You sound like a professional! I was really uncomfortable recording my voice. Maybe the more I do it the easier it will get.

  2. I agree with Alicia - you did a nice job explaining, and I liked how you did a quick second explanation in your first video. You can post videos like this on your site or blog for kids to access at home. If you want to get really fancy, you can copy the embed code from YouTube and embed the video on your page. Then it will play right on your blog! You just have to remember to paste the embed code in using the HTML view of your post.
